Here you will find:   Prayers we will learn, prayers your child should already know, chapter guide (with Bible readings to go with each chapter), and unit links.




 Third graders will be learning two prayers during the year:
The Apostles' Creed  and  The Nicene Creed.

 We will be learning about the The Apostles' Creed during one of our chapters. We will be memorizing The Nicene Creed.



Apostles' Creed

I believe in God,
the Father Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
 the holy Catholic Church,
 the communion of saints,
 the forgiveness of sins,
 the resurrection of the body,
 and life everlasting.

Amen







Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, light from light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us men and our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered, died, and was buried. On the third day he rose again in fulfillment of the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the prophets.

We believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We lkook for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.

You may practice these prayers at home before we begin to memorize them. 





 These are the prayers that students should have memorized before entering Third Grade.

Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with you;
blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners
now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.





Act of Contrition

Oh my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended You, and I detest all of my sins because of Your just punishments, but most of all because I have offended You, my God, Who are all good and deserving of all of my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Your grace, to sin no more, to do penance and to avoid the near occasions of sin.  Amen.





Grace Before Meals

Bless us, O Lord, and these your gifts,
which we are about to receive
from your bounty,
through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Chapter 4:   The Church Begins
Jesus promises to send the Holy Spirit.

Chapter 5:   We Learn About the Early Church
The apostles led the Church.

Chapter 6:   The Church Year
The Church Year celebrates Jesus.

In Ordinary Time, we celebrate the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.

Unit 2:   We Are Members of the Church

Chapter 8:   The Church Has Four Marks
Jesus chose the apostles to lead the Church.
The pope and bishops are the succesors of the apostles.
The Church is one and holy.
The Church is catholic and apostolic.

Chapter 9:   The Church Teaches Us
The Church is the Body of Christ and the people of God.
We profess our faith through the Apostles' Creed.
The Holy Spirit guides the Church.

Chapter 10:   The Church Prays
Jesus teaches his followers how to pray.
We can pray with others or by ourselves.

Chapter 11:   The Parish Is Our Home
We belong to a parish.
Many people serve our parish.

God calls each of us.
God calls everyone to be holy.

The season of Advent helps us prepare for the coming of the Son of God.
